Brick 3 Pizza
1107 Old World Third Street

After a hard night of pounding PBR’s and doing shots of whiskey, I laid in bed all day while developing an appetite. Angry at myself for wasting the entire afternoon resting comatose, and to lazy to fix myself a meal, I decided to check out a relatively new pizza joint located on 1107 Old World Third Street, Brick 3 Pizza. I entered the curbside restaurant with thoughts of kicking ass and eating a slice of pie, however when I walk through the doors the place is nearly empty, which means no ass kicking this early evening, just pizza eating. I’m greeted by a young Chinese man, who I figured is either working his way through college or has already flunked out (turns out he owns the place, guess I wrong). Brick 3 offers a stylish setting, almost too nice for a place that sells crust, cheese and tomato sauce. In addition to the stylish digs, the place is equipped with a few flat screens, which is phenomenal if you happen to be stuck with a boring date that does nothing but talk about how cool he/she is, while gossiping about all the crazy things they’ve done in their life in an attempt to win your approval. Anyway, several pizzas were displayed, similar to the pizza places you’d find in a mall, which was cool because I wasn’t in the mood for the whole wheel, just a piece.

They offer your traditional styles of pizza; pepperoni, sausage and plain cheese for the kids. If you’re trendy and to sophisticated for the traditional slice, they also offer spinach, caprese, and BBQ chicken with bacon, among others. If pizza isn’t your thing, they also offer a handful of sandwiches, calzones, salads, appetizers, and desserts. However, who goes to a pizza place looking for a sandwich? Someone looking for an ass kicking, that’s who. Not having a side dish, and only a slice of ‘Za, I cannot comment on the menu. I can, however, vouch for their pizza, which is served New York style; large slices with a crispy crust. Over and above tasty food, Brick 3 entertains decent hours, they’re open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the week, and 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday-Saturday, I assume in order to capture the late night drunkards stumbling out from the local bars and clubs. Bottom line is that Milwaukee is peppered with ordinary pizza joints offering their rendition of the Italian dish. Brick 3 offers an exceptional alternative to the 30 minute or less corporate powerhouses, or run of the mill mom and pop shops who toss frozen mozzarella on top of a Prego soaked crust. I highly recommend Brick 3 pizza, which is a restaurant serving Italian food, owned by a Chinese man, in America…imagine that.
